The Little Fox

For this week’s furry little friend, we have a special surprise for our loyal readers. We believe in the importance and value of friendship and the exchange of ideas among similarly minded individuals. To celebrate these ideas and the birth of a new community, TinyPawsBlog today launches a new program: you send us pictures and a story of your lovable companion, and we’ll feature them in our posts. Starting things off, here is one little fox to warm your hearts: Fred the Somali cat.

Fred, which you can admire in all his glory, has more in common with with a certain modern stone-age man than most of his peers. His chilled demeanour quickly gets replaced by agility and urgency whenever the family gathers for a meal. This cat does not wait for the generosity of his owner and instead tries to grab his fair share of whatever has been placed on the dining table. Fred carries forward a long tradition of Somali genes with his luxurious, bushy tail and overall breathtaking beauty. Unlike Fred, however, Somali are squirmy and energetic cats who love playing and surprising their owner

TRIVIA

  • They are prone to anaemia
  • Their ticked coat has between 4 and 20 bands of colour on each hair
  • They crave attention, having to be brushed at least 2-3 times a week
  • They are nicknamed Fox cats
  • Somali cats are very dexterous and like to grab and hold onto things

Kylo Cat

Kylo Cat has movie star good looks and a story to share. After the doppelgänger resemblance between him and actor Adam Driver went viral, Kylo Cat (also known as Corey) upgraded his residence from the cat shelter to a loving family. You can read his story here or you can be the hero of your own story and visit your local shelter to adopt a kitty in need.

If you please

The first official and non-introductory post of this blog aims to start things off right. Cue the most recognisable cat breed in the world, hitting hard right from your childhood.

Named after its country of origin, Siam now known as Thailand, the Siamese cat was first introduced to the Western Hemisphere in 1871 through London’s Crystal Palace Cat Show. During the extravaganza, he was dubbed the Royal Cat of Siam, which is a fitting title for a descendant of the wichien-maat (means ‘moon diamond’).

Before we go any further, lets get this out of the way: despite the dreamy name and regal appearance, people still thought the Royal Cat of Siam wasn’t good enough and decided to improve on the feline’s design through careful breeding. The result was a distinctive breed  with a more elongated and angular body, finer bones and shorter hair, which sounds a lot like an actress after going into show business. Fittingly, this type of Siamese is often referred to as ‘show-style’.

Similar to a Pumpkin Spice and Almond Machiatto, owning one of these needy specimens will change your life. That is in no way a promise of good things to come; change is not always good. Siamese cats are very sociable, friendly and intelligent. However, this package of qualities makes them VERY needy. They are some of the most talkative cats and feel compelled to inform you of your poor choice of cat food, what the neighbour is up to, how you never spend enough time at home etc. This need to communicated also commonly strikes them at 2AM, because why not?

TRIVIA

  • You can actually teach them to play fetch
  • They will tolerate you putting a leash on them
  • Many of them are lactose intolerant
  • They will keep ‘talking’ for 15 years or more

Welcome to TinyPawsBlog

Welcome to the blog and all things cat!

A few things before we start: KATZ are everywhere!! Like literally everywhere! If your friends and neighbours don’t have one, you will probably see one on the street living the thug life. Number two you should just live with it. Embrace it. Be a super-hero and go adopt a cat from a shelter.

Every Disney film lover 12696162_949351668485506_581912841_n
knows how the brave and the fearless doggy duo Lady and the Tramp saved the human baby from a vicious rat. However, we all know a good old fashioned cat would have gotten the job done faster and with a lot less drama. Efficiency at its finest in the adorable packages we all know as the CAT!

In order to celebrate these unsung heroes I decided to dedicate this tiny paw print of the Internet to our moody and two-faced friends. To further illustrate how awesome our fur-ball friends are one can chose to view them as ferocious descendants of proud lions and tiger that have gone through a shrink ray

Each post will be a weekly affair that will follow an easily digestible structure that will go nicely as a side-dish to whatever your cat decides to bring you as a present. Each post will kick off with a cat breed of the week where we will discuss the ethnogenesis. The boring bits will be kept at a minimum through fun facts and trivia. Next off we will delight, laugh and cry by sharing real cat stories from real cat owners, many of which will be whimsical and probably funny only from the cat’s perspective. And of course no cat blog would be complete without a healthy dose of everyone favourite pastime funny cat pictures on the internet. the crown jewel of this segment will aim to answer  one of the most important questions in all of human history: “if a famous person were to turn into a cat what would he look like?”

Finally to provide an ending message for this initial blog post, I suggest each and every cat owner engage in this possibly blossoming community and help form a new tradition. I want each and everyone of you to hold your cat, gaze lovingly into its eyes and softly recite the following, so your tiny friend knows how appreciative you are of them and that they should keep their heads and paws raised up to the sky. (any possible scars resulting from this are proof of your cats love and devotion)
